*Question on CRK/ALMar collaboration and other 1 piece knives*

Well, I work in a knife store (right now we do not carry CR knives) but I have had the chance to play with several of them at stores and with friends who have them. But this is not my main idea behind this post. A few days ago, I was visiting a friend who works at a near by knife shop, while he was busy with customers I noticed a One piece fixed blade that looked similar to a Chris Reeve, but also had the Al Mar stamp on it, i inquired about it (I don't know a ton about CR knives, especially in the one piece range (but customs is a different story) , except the steel and materials used. Anyway, he said that it was a collaboration between Reeve and AlMar, and that there were 200 of them made. I did not have a ton of time to question about it, but it had a nice look to it, and felt nice. Later that day, I came home and did a bit of searching on it, but did not come up with much more info than I already knew. So if anyone can tell me about it, it would be great. I was not very interested in buying the knife, but some info. on it would be really appreciated!!! The price seemed relatively high (until I saw Mike's post about selling them for $400), but if any one was interested in getting it, (cause its probably a rare collectable, let me know) They originally had 2 of them, 199 and 200/200 (which I thought was rather lucky #'s) BUT, now they only have 199, and I don't remember there price exactly but it was around $450, this is a B&M store, in a touristy location with higher prices, but someone might be interested in it if its collectable. Please excuse the bad grammer/spelling because I am writing this in a hurry, I have to work tomorrow morning and want to get some sleep.

Also, I was wondering if any one could give me any feedback to the other knives in the CR one piece line, and how they fell about them/like them with general use? And if there are any drawbacks that I should know about.

Thanks for the help,

mmmmmatrix,

I could be wrong here, but my understanding is...

There were 3 models made, back in 94 I beieve it was. 200 of each.

The blade shape is similar, the lengths were different.

4.5", 6.0" (coulda been 5.500", or 5.575", I'm not sure which), and 7.0" (rough blade lengths, the largest was between 6.750" and 7.250" I think..)

We've been looking for the mid-sized model for a year now. We've seen 2 so far. One went for $425, and the other as part of a matched set for $450 for the medium and small combined.

We've seen individual AMK/CRK's xxx/100 go for between $225 and $450, depending on the model, the buyer, and the planetary alignment on the day of the sale.

We'll go $275 and shipping for a mint, (read: mint) medium sized, for any sellers out there.

Hope that helps.

M-P or whomever -- can I assume that the knives were made by CRK, and sold as Al Mars? Not sure how that scores as a collaboration in my dictionary, but it does mean there are more 1-piece knives out there.

Has CRK done the same for any other knife companies?

The collaboration was as follows:

- CRK designed and manufactured the knives (the blade style, I think, was supposed to be Al Mar-ish, but designed by Chris).

- The knives were marketed and distributed by AMK.

I do have the set of three. I bought the large and small from James Mattis, and have some of his wallpaper scans that are great images, if anybody is interested. I picked up the medium after watching for one on the for sale forum for about 1.5 years. Got it for a good price, though.

Thanks, Schussboomer. I appreciate the info.

I'd be very grateful for copies of the scans you mentioned. You don't show an e-mail, so posted this request.

Thanks,

Well, I do have some nice scans, but not sure how I can post them. They're on my hard drive, so I can't hyperlink to a web site. Can somebody point me in the right direction? Thanks.
