So I'm looking at the price list PDF titled "Sending CRK Your Knife." They have "return your handle to original finish - not offered on inlaid knives" is $30. On the next page there's a sentence at the top that reads "If you are sending a plain sandblasted folding knife we will re-sandblast the handle, and add a new lanyard at no extra cost." What am I missing here?

Huh, just went to look at that. I don't get it either. You can always call on Monday or email for clarification. Maybe somebody will chime in though.

I don't see the confusion. The service is $30.00. The next page explains the service a little more. The emphasis in that sentence is "and add a new lanyard at no extra cost". The no extra cost refers to the new lanyard.

Then why do you have to explain that you do NOT want one or both of the services? Sure makes it sound like it's included to me. I could see where someone would want a tuning and sharpening but want their handles to remain worn looking hence the disclaimer.

The first two sentences make it sound like if it's a plain jane it's getting a complimentary sandblast when sent in to the spa. The 3rd sentence sounds like everything else such as inlaid knives will get everything else other than sandblasting.

I thought they had started blasting the slabs for free when you send one in to get the blade tumbled and the knife serviced.
Not positive though.
Its been several years since I sent one in and you did pay for it then.

They'll call you when they receive your knife and ask exactly what you want done and give you the total cost then. You can specify every minute detail of what you want done to your hearts content. It really couldn't be easier, they have a great mom & pop type feel and personal service. I have no doubt they'll take great care of you.

I had a small regular that a previous owner gave a heavy scotch-brite treatment too. The handles were nearly polished and all the blue was worn off the stud and back ring. I believe it cost me 30-35$ to have it restored to new condition (re-grayed and blued, sharpened, tuned, etc.) so it sounds like your interpretation is correct.

Nice.

If you go to the CRK webpage, you'll see the option to contact them, when that opens up, you'll see the pricing listed for options such as what you're looking for. Yes, they do charge to have the handles re blasted

That's what I figured but I had heard differing stories in the past that the spa service included stuff like handle refinishing and blade tumbling which clearly isn't true. Just was curious what others' experience had been.

I actually noticed the same thing awhile back and emailed CRK. I wasn't able to find the email but basically blasting the knife is included now for free. Case in point....I sent in a Sebenza with micarta inlays and Startac Umnumzaan and the both came back with blasted handles. All I paid was shipping.

I think the $30 is for re-anodizing cgg sebs. I could be wrong though. Blasting of plain handles is free. Tumbling of the blade is $30. Sharpening and lanyard are free with all services.

What was the turnaround time on yours, and is it always $15 for return shipping?

I have sent 4 CRK's in for the spa treatment. And what I wrote on the paperwork was " do whatever needs to be done" and each time when they called me the only charge I needed to pay for was the return shipping. The knives I sent in were:
Small classic with unique graphic
Small plain 21
Small Starbenza
Mnandi

And each of them returned in like new condition. They do amazing work. So I'm not sure what the actual charges would be, unless it's for a complete restoration or something like that. But for normal use wear and tear I don't believe you'll be charged for anything.

Just my experience.

Best of luck.
