Have a question for you guys. Ive been thinking about ordering a custom 110 but have read some of those post from last month about some issues Buck is having with them question is would you guys order one from the custom shop right now or should I try to find a older one? I really want one in samber stag and would be nice to have upgrade in blade steel like s30v or cpm.

I wouldn't worry about ordering one.Ive noticed lately on every manufacturer sub forum people posting about some issue.

I've ordered 4 knives out of the Custom Shop in the last 3-4 months. Bullseye excellence on every one. Even bought a couple of stock pocket knives online and both were perfect. I woud'nt worry. Even if you got a dud, I'm sure Buck would make it right.

I have purchased two custom 110's one just recently and both were perfect in everyway.

great to hear this think im going to order samber stag, nickel silver bolster with s30v blade and my last name engraved on the bolster :D  oh just wondering what is turn around time when you place a order?

I ordered one identical to what you described here....except for the name on the bolster. :)

It is an absolute beauty!!

I imagine the turn around time is always varying. I ordered mine about 1 1/2 years ago and got it quicker than I thought I would.

One thing you should keep in mind. The sambar scales you receive may or may not closely resemble those shown in the illustrations or of those that are posted by other folks. Not all sambar scales are created equal and the ones you get may vary a lot from what you may be expecting. I've been there and done that.

You might want to browse this thread (http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...-Shop-110-with-Sambar-or-Elk?highlight=sambar) post #6 before making your final choice.

When I placed an order for one a little over a week ago(Indigo royal wood, S30v plain edge, nickel silver bolsters/rivets, finger grooves, leather sheath) it said custom shop orders take 4-6 weeks generally.

Every one I`ve got has been perfect, and most of the time it was less than six weeks. If your last name is more than 8 letters long, it won`t fit. (Try fitting Kiedaisch , no way!) I even tried JK Knives, but because of the space it won`t work.

Well, I haven't had the best luck with custom 110's.
If you look around this forum, you'll see some of my stories.
Long story short, I'm batting around .500 quality wise with them.
Biggest problem for me was horizontal blade play.
I recently sent 2 new ones back to Buck for fixing,
One had already been back and was no better uponon its return.
Anyway, I sent them back, Joe Houser emailed me several weeks later saying that I'd be happy with one,
but they couldn't make any progress with the other.
So they sent the good one back, and refunded me for the other.
The one they sent back is perfect, and locks up like a bank vault.
It was, however, dull as a butter knife.
That was interesting as every other 110 I've owned has been razor sharp.
Oh well.
My conclusion from all this is that Buck still doesn't have their s*#t together in the QC dept.
I'll use this 110 as much as possible for general outside chores around the house to see how it holds up.
However, I won't be buying another Buck.
Lenny

My wife just ordered me another one to celebrate 5 years as a full time knifemaker, and Father`s Day. (should be here by then)

I've got 2 110s and an Alpha Hunter on order right now. I ordered the Alpha on 4/23 and the 2 110s on 5/8 so it will probably be awhile before they get here. But I'll post the results (how long it took, condition, etc.) when they get here.

wow that is crazy Lenny! Dang. John if you can let me know how your new one is when you get it.

How is Bucks Damascus on a 110? ive never used Damascus what steel would you compare it to?

well ivan
dis is only my two bits worth.. but
I kinda like the older custom shop knives
some of dem have some bg42 or other steels
many of em have never been used and are selling below what they would cost now
s30v .. I likes it fine some report it is a tad brittle and some times chips on the edge

again buy what you likes but as ya asked thought I would drop my dime on ya

now as to that damascuss stuff ... I cuts my self once with a buck damamascus blade
yowser it hurt ! felt like a hack saw type of edge as it cut me
cuts tough beef like it were butter also..
shame it will rust if not taken care of
but looks great and makes a great user...

ya I think you ought to check out some old carbon Damascus Steel from Buck :D;)
