The custom shop on their website only allows for 110 and their alpha....ummm...their alpha something, fixed blade.

Is there no way to get a 119,105, or 102 in a metal other than their 420HC?

How "old" of knives would I have to look for if that's the route I need to go?

You can find some of those knives with different steels, but it wont be easy ;)

They all were made (1980's & previous) with 440C and
early 90's 425M. (approx)

And there have been limited edition knives with BG-42 and ATS-34, but those will be the hardest to find... Alot of collectors have those "super steels" all locked up already ;)

Baaaahhh!!!!

Actually I'm not surprised. What should I look for in order to tell these fixed blades' age? Are there any marking or minute tooling differences

How is the 425M compared to 440C and 420HC?

Thanks, I don't know were I'd find some of this stuff without forums like this.

Honestly I prefer the 420HC. But thats like asking everyone what type of car they prefer.

Any knives with the "super steels" should have the steel type stamped on the blade somewhere. 425M is hard to tell the difference without testing. The 440C knives will have a BUCK stamp or BUCK USA or BUCK (the model #) and USA .
(three line stamp) without date codes most likely... These are kinda vague descriptions of years but they will get you in the ball park ;) Also most of the 440C knives will have a semi hollow grind on the blade not a full hollow grind.
Heres some pics of different steel stampings:

I hope I helped out a little bit! Good luck.
