Question on e-bay bidding histories.

I've been studying past bidding histories and was confused by these two Brian and David Yellowhorse listings. When these were active, the last I noticed is that the David listing was at about $135. some hours before closing and the Brian listing was likewise at about $155. I didn't see the closing bids, but the sites now list them like this:

David Yellowhorse Red Quartz " Wolf Tracks" No 7 of 50

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190381065055#ht_1264wt_1052

Yellowhorse "Buffalo Hunter" Buck 110

http://cgi.ebay.com/Yellowhorse-Buf...ltDomain_0?hash=item2c53988753#ht_1031wt_1067

I bid on both but did not win either and wanted to know the final winning bid and review the bidding history. Why aren't they listed as on other auctions?

WD,

Look at all the cool stuff this guy sells or has for sale in his shop. If you look at his buy it now prices...wow$$$$$$. This seller also puts his stuff up for auction with no minimum bid sometimes. However, if he doesn't get what he wants ($$$$) he just closes his auction and ebay lets him do it all the time. I like to look at all the cool stuff he has but, I don't bid on his auctions anymore.

His shop is the one I got the MP 111 Rattle Snake proto from.

I wonder why he doesn't set a minimum bid that he is comfortable with. Otherwise it's just a waste of people's time to bit on something that's retracted. "Here's an offer. No, I take that back!"

How can someone just close and auction? If no reserve is listed, isnt that like retracting a bid?

It doesn't seem like a good way to conduct business. If I send a payment for a BIN listing, will he say "I've changed my mind. I'm not selling." ?

I think it is like retracting a bid and unless there is an unusual circumstance it shouldn't be done. These offers were on the boards for days and were only retracted in the final hours. That doesn't seem right to me. He should just set a minimum bid he is comfortable with or not offer it.

Agreed 100%

A couple of weeks ago I found myself bidding agains a person who had retracted
eight bids in the last six months. How can they do that?

There are only certain conditions where you can "legally" retract a bid and they are all spelled out by the Ebay rules. Bidder's regret isn't one of them.

Something that isn't well known is the fact that if someone out bids you, retracts their bid making you high bidder again and you win, you are on the hook for it, even if you have moved on and bought something else.

Equally annoying is the "bid history" on the links I gave in the original post. They say "0 bids", but that is not true for those auctions. There were several bids before the auctions were cancelled. E-bay shouldn't allow this.

Keep in mind that ebay is a business and making $$$$ is priority #1.

Being fair, equitable, keeping people honest, etc. are DISTANT seconds!

It's long been a marketing tool for a seller with a store to have an auction once in a while as a way to get people to check their other items and maybe visit their store.....it's like a form of advertising for their store.

It seems that some of them now want the advertising without actually selling the auction item. It is true that the auction items often sell for less than the store prices, so if it appears that the bids are not going to be high enough......the auction gets canceled.

Signs of the tough economic times.

it is a 4 letter word

Yup, I forget the seller but they had a Doc Lucie (Scagel replicas) with a "buy it now" for something like $79,000! I sent a question and they replied that they are not trying to sell it?

Isn't Buck Knives Incorporated a nice alternative to that mindset you have outlined?

I'll bet that one of the reasons BKI has stayed in business so long is because they maintain principles of integrity and honesty.

When I come across a business that doesn't seem to be shooting straight I'll not do business with them, I don't care what they are selling. I would rather deal with honest people.

If you end a listing early you have to do it with at least 12 hours left to go, if it's less than 12 hours ebay won't let you end your auction, this seller has been doing this for years, he sometimes starts a high dollar knife at .99 and when it isn't high enough and getting close to the end he almost always ends the auction early and cancels all bids, i got one of his buck 110's with the antelope in the handle done by santa fe stone works, he forgot to end the listing so i got it for less than he would have liked to sell it for so i thought i got a really good deal, well it wasn't as good as i thought , he sent me one that was less than perfect, the blade is loose and falls about 3/4 of an inch open when closed and held with the blade down.

I was tickled way beyond the $40.00 or so I saved for sure and added him to my favorite sellers list!!! Because he was honest I still look to see if he has anything listed...Tom..Sending a different/lesser/damaged was WRONG!**** Feedback Baby****** But..... I hate to say anything mean about anybody
