I'm considering to purchase the infamous CQC7 with the wave feature, but there are several things that bug me :

1. If I wave it open too often, will it develop blade play ?

2. If memory serves right, for a right-handed user, the flat side of the chisel ground should be on the left side (considering that the cuts are made away from the cutter's body). However, in CQC7, the flat side is on the right side. What's the deal with this ? Any advantages / disadvantages ?

Thanks in advance guys. Keep 'em sharp !

1. Probably not. In my experience they are very well built knives and will not break or wear excessively from waving. The pivot will loosen with time and use, however, it can easily be re-tightened. I know some folks out there use a little Locktite.

2. Held in my right hand, with the cutting edge facing down, the flat side is the on the right for my Emerson (HD-7). It's a bit different than my other knives but I eventually got used to it. With practice, I'm sure just about anyone could.

You can always tighten the pivot for lateral blade movement if it develops. I have found that the using the wave excessively does wear the liner lock quicker. EKI will always fix it free though, no questions asked, there warranty is the best in the business. keepem sharp

From a couple years of waved openings , I wore out a mini and reg commander to the point where the lock was a bit sloppy , I just made a slightly oversized stop pin for it and was back in action.

Have no fear , it's a tool , with use , anything can wear out , but EKI will repair it good as new , their CS is great.

My personal opinion , the Commander and Mini Commander are two of the best designed knives out there. A framelock mini comm would be the heat !

According to Ernie it does not matter what side the flat is one for a combat/utility knife; but he puts the bevel on the left side for asthetics.
