Hey guys ive been lurking around this site for some time now and just had a question that i had to post.

Ok, my question is, is it easy or hard to close one of these particular spydercos with one hand (delica or Endura).Currently i am lookin into purchasing a BM 550 grip, BM 530, or a delica or endura. i really enjoy the axis system but i like the wave. I really dont see the delica being easy to close with one hand, not like the axis anyways. thanks for the help. I really plan on participating more in the forums.

It's pretty easy. Maybe not quite as easy as a Grip, but nothing that a couple closings won't change.

It's easy but time consuming. By that I mean, it takes me around 1 second to close a delica, compared to 0.1 seconds to close a benchmade with an axis lock.

I don't do two handed closings on any of my knives. All you have to do is lower your grip so that your thumb rests on the lock release, push it, press the spine of the blade one your leg or the table or something so that way the blade moves a bit (to keep the lock from reengaging), and then finish the closing like you would on a liner/axis/frame locking knife. Takes three seconds if you're taking your time and no effort.

Man u guys are quick!!!!!!
I really like spydercos i have a older worker model, its really hard to close with one hand but i can do it. I really want a knife thats easily concealed and fast to open and close. Anyone ever looked at the belt buckle knife??? I think the web site is just that with .com. Anyone have anything good to say about the BM 530>>???

Please, ignore the belt buckle knife. :)
Not a great piece of equipment.

If you need speed, axis locks and liner locks and framelocks are great. Assisted openers are also fun.

I like lockbacks, too, and have no real problem closing them, some more easily than others. Your old worker may just need a bit of lubrication.

YEah i lubed it pretty good but its just that damn lock release on back is so hard to push. Man if u watch the belt buckle knife thing on you tube he really makes it look appealing. I really like the wave and axis lock. Wish i could have a knife with both. Also, if any one is interested on youtube if u search benchmade gripptilian there are some good videos of a foreign guy digging in the sand to show the reliability of the axis lock.

That Belt Buckle Knife guy is a goob who thinks he's such a badass.

The knives suck and are of poor quality.

Typical blowhard who thinks he is a badass.

Instead of a second-rate gimmick like the belt buckle knife, if you could get something like a Becker Necker (or a similar small sheath knife) and attach a Tek-Lok, you could wear that cross-draw to the side of the belt buckle.

You want a wave AND an axis lock? Get the Griptilian with the opening hole and Dremel out the material in front of the hole. A few guys have done this with Spydercos. (Maybe you could pay STR to do this for you.)

Another possiblity is to put a zip-tie through that Griptilian opening hole, and the zip-tie will catch on the edge of your pocket like a wave. Also an old Spyderco trick.

Thanks guys!!!!! You dudes are serious knifeiologist (just made that up). Im gonna look into that grip/dremel trick. Anything on the BM 530???

OHHHH also i almost forgot my most important question. Does anyone know if you can flick closed a Benchmade with an auto axis????

You can have the wave with an axis lock. I have done 5 or 6 of them. You just need a dremel or a grinder to do it.

BTW I have the delica 4 wave as well as a BM 556/558 that I wave myself. Although the d4 wave is a bit bigger, you can not beat the silky smooth action of the wave along side the axis. They are meant to be together like peanut butter and jelly!

Here is a few pictures of my BM 558 Ritter grip along side its brother the d4 wave.

You could also take off the thumbstud of any grip/mini-grip and place a zip tie through that as well.

That looks sweet!!!! but the BM 558, i cant find it on the Bm site. Can u send me a link to it??? what wave feels better, the BM custom or the spydie???

The BM 558 is a doug ritter only knife. You can google it up. Both the waves work good. The Bm custom seems more smooth since it is an axis, but it won't open up bottle caps like the spyderco can.
