I just bought an Endura this weekend. I am new to Spyderco products, and am unsure of what this model is designed for. The clerk was young and quite busy, so I didn't bother to ask. How does this compare to the Police model? This was $59.00 at a sporting goods store. I like the knife, very sharp and has a smooth feel to it. I'm noticing the price on this model is far below that of other similar models on E-Bay. Is this an inferior knife, or not built to last as well as the Police model? I'm just wondering about the low price?? Any thoughts or comments? Thanks!

The Endura can be used for just about anything. It's definitely a general purpose folder. It can handle utility, self defense, pretty much whatever you throw at it. It's slightly smaller than the Police as well. Did you buy the SS version or the FRN version? The SS has AUS-6 steel, which is a step down from the VG-10 in the Police, not necessarily inferior steel, just not as respected as VG-10. The FRN Endura also has VG-10 steel. The SS ones are being upgraded to VG-10 as well in the near future, so if you got one of the new ones, you may have got lucky, but I don't know if they've shipped yet.

Actually, you can check the blade of the knife, and it will tell you what steel it is. That should help you a little bit. Don't worry about the price, Spydercos are relatively inexpensive, but they outperform other knives twice their price.

Enjoy it.

I got the AUS-6 knife. When you say, not as respected as the VG-10, do you mean the steel won't hold an edge as long, or that it is not as strong? It does seem like a very rugged knife.

That's it, it really doesn't hold an edge that long. On the bright side of
AUS-6, it's easy to sharpen!

AUS-6 won't hold an edge as long as VG-10, but you can be put the edge back on AUS-6 in about 12 seconds, give or take;)

I believe it is also tougher and more corrosion resistant, but I could be mistaken.
