I am ready to pull the trigger and order a custom slipjoint. This knife will be an EDC.If I get one with filework on the backspring is it difficult to keep clean?

Nope, not really, just a toothbrush and soap & water, then blow out, dry and reoil. not as hard as getting down between the liners clean.

Beauty supply stores carry these "Q" tip type things with a broad soft cotton pad on one end and a very pointed but soft tip on the other. I have found these GREAT for cleaning in tight/difficult to reach areas such as filework, liners and such.

While we are on the subject of items that help keep your knives in good shape, I have found light cotton inspection gloves to be great for handling your knives to avoid leaving finger prints that can turn into rust.
