How has participation in this and/or other forums changed your ideas on wilderness survival, survival kit preparation, etc?

For me, I have gained knowledge and practical skills through application of that learned to give me a lot more confidence in my own abilities.

Hence, I have been able to redesign my survival kits, first aid kits, and BOB with essential items to enhance my wilderness experiences. More pleasureable experience in the outdoors has resulted in better quality time and, subsequently, a far more relaxed and healthier overall lifestyle. I think I react quicker, I adapt without near as much stress, and my improv skills allow me to think a little more clearly and probably with a more objective viewpoint (unless hungover.)

My thanks to all of you who participate here for sharing your knowledge, experience, and opinions.

Mike

Couldn't agree more, Mike. This has been a great opportunity for me to expand my knowledge about survival skills. For much of the year, I'm a deskjocky and don't have the time to get out and about, so this is a good way to "stay active." Preparedness starts in the mind. This summer, I will be "in the field" for seven weeks and will get an opportunity to test some of what I've learned here.

And not to detract from this forum but I'd like to put in a plug for Plainsman's Cabin. http://pub7.ezboard.com/bplainsmanscabin I've learned an awful lot there as well. Plus, Plainsman's Cabin has a bunch of links to other great survival sites like Ron Hood's Hood's Woods. http://server2.ezboard.com/bhoodlums
I actually learned about Ron's survival tapes from the Plainsman's Cabin and I have to say, if you really want to accelerate your learning curve, his tapes are a wonderful vehicle. It's just like inviting a professional survival instructor into your home. The tapes are extremely well-made, detailed, and easy to see and follow.

I get some pleasure from finding a relentlessly peaceful use for a combative looking knife.

Well said by both of you -- I can't think of anything to add. I'm glad that this forum has provided you with a vehicle for improvement of your skills and lifestyle. Both of you are great contributors here.

Strangely, starting with the survival fourum, but also from some other conversations in other fourums here, it has made me think more about firearms than I otherwise would.

I've never been anything but a camper/hiker, but have recently because of this fourum started to learn to shoot, and added a .22 rimfire rile and ammo to my kit for some long hikes. I have always had the hikers wariness of guns (comes from hiking in deer country during hunting season and being really nervous every time I hear a gun going off) and thought they were a little scary. Decided after reading some things on this fourum that I should learn to shoot. I may someday buy a pistol.

A lot of good information and trading ideas here for me, the above has been the one thing that has been new, but heck I'm fairly new here myself

lord knows what I'll learn eventually....

As a "freshman" member of the forum with maby 6-7 posts, I'm not qualified to say a lot about my experience with Bladeforums, except this : If I were to stop not and never return I would already be better off in knowledge than when I started a few days ago. More importantly, EVERYONE has impressed me to the point where I feel I am part of a family and I thank you for that!!See you at the next post.

Glad to have you all aboard!

This is really a great thread -- keep it coming!

~Brian.
