A friend of mine gave me a gas forge (in pieces) that belonged to his father (who has passed away). The body of the forge was cast around a basketball so the inside is round. It has a blower attached to the gas line and the nozzel is water cooled. The forge was copied from a magizine artical. Does this ring a bell with any one. I would like to find the original artical if possible so I can reassemble this forge and try to make some layered steel blades. Thank you for any help William

Spherical interior and watercooled nozzle sounds like an early version of a Tim Zowada forge. www.tzknives.com Email him with a foto of the pieces to see if it's his design. Tim's a good guy.

William,

Your description did ring a bell so I dug through my binders of various plans, specs, etc and found what might be the source article for your forge. As the others so deftly noted it may be a Tim Zowda design. The article by Tim is "How to Make Your Own Gas Forge", in the November/December 1990 issue of The Blade Magazine.
If you can't get ahold of Tim for some reason drop me a PM and we'll see if we can get a copy (of my photocopy) to you.

Hope this helps.
