Do the Blackhawk sheaths that come with the Green Beret models come with a form fitted kydex insert or is it more of a generic insert? How secure would the knife be in the sheath without securing the strap around the handle?

The insert is generic (to facilitate ambidexterous wear).

Retention without the thumb snap is not good (on the one I have).

If the knife and sheath are inverted, a light bump will cause the knife to fall out.

Thanks for the replies. Now, is there any rattling in the sheath when you shake the knife around?

Not that I can tell. The kydex insert is sized right. You can move the knife a little by the handle but shaking the sheath does not seem to generate any rattle on mine.

I took the plastic insert out, heated it up and molded it like kydex to my blade. That stopped the rattling.
