As a newbie tell me if this is not a permitted question here, but I enjoy just putting unique handles on, and making sheaths for Green River style carbon steel blades. These blades are pretty inexpensive, but work great for my needs. I've found nice blades for skinners, boning, fillet, chef's, and general purpose blades, but I would really like to find a good 3-4" drop point CS blade of this style so I could make a few hunting blades for friends. I really like the thin, easy to sharpen style blades like the Green River. Years ago I finished several of the Cold Steel Red River blades, these were excellent. Thanks in advance for any information you could provide.

Texas Knife Supply and Jantz have a few to choose from. There are many more suppliers that sell just blades or kits. A simple search on any search engine has kept me busy many times, till I forgot what I was actually looking for.

There are many sources, Crazy Crow Trading Post being one. What you might want is called The "Ripper". It is a very popular design for working a deer, or other game. My deer processor will use nothing else.

Greetings,
Any guess on "what kind of Carbon steel" Green River Knives are made from? I just completed 2 sheep skinners and 2 Rippers. They make impressive hunting knives and are razor sharp. Wife had to almost stitch me up last week from the 1st sheep skinner. I hate to type this... but I wonder how they can grind out these knives and sell the blanks for under 10$. That is almost the same cost as D2 bar stock! They are even processed in the USA!
