Question on jigged bone

Hello all,
I have been thinking about a scale material for a custom I am having made, and have narrowed it down to a black jigged bone or ebony. I like the classic black Rogers jigged bone like on old Cases, and I am wondering if anyone knows the ins and outs of what jigged bones are available now. The modern Cases aren't jigged near the bolsters, which I don't like as much.

Anyone see any recent knives, either custom or production, with some really nice examples of black Rogers style jigged bone? And better yet, anyone know any sources?

If anyone would like to post some new or classic black jigged Rogers bone knives I'd be appreciative.
I am sure there are some nice ones out there, and thanks for anyone who wants to take the time to post some pics!

Terry Davis jigs and dyes his own bone, and fits it right to the bolster in the old sheffield manner. But his knives are rare!
Like this Saddlehorn;

or this Harness Jack;

Fantastic examples waynorth..I'll take that saddlehorn off your hands for a while so I can study that jigging in-depth..

Gee, in the interests of education, I'll send it right over!!

And pigs will soar gracefully through the clouds!!!!

That's the type and quality I am looking for. Any idea if Terry just sells scale material?

No, I am sure he does not! He does a few select knife shows a year, and it's usually a lottery system to buy a knife. He doesn't take orders, so it is hard to buy one of his pieces unless you go to the shows. I feel lucky to have the few that I do. Try here;

Yes, that would explain why they are rare! Very nice work. I of course love the Bose jigged bone too, and I read that Reese (at least) dyes and jigs his own.

In my opinion, there seems to be a wide variety in quality of jigged bone, at least in looks. I haven't talked to Ken Erickson about his opinion yet (who is making my knife), just trying to learn a little in advance so I won't take too much of his time.

Thanks for the site -

VERY cool site Charlie!! Thanks for posting it. I put that one right in the `ol vault!

Someone slipped something into my coffee, I'm sure of it!! I swear I saw a..........never mind!!
Terry's knives are not elaborate, but are very well planned and executed. They don't have that squared "blocky" feel that a lot of guys can't seem to avoid. The older Case knives, and others I'm sure, have that nice slim feel that wants to be in your pocket. My favorite makers for that are the Bose men, Terry Davis, and Dan Burke. Once again, I'm sure there are others.
email answered BTW, sunburst!

You know sunburst.....

In the Schrade forum, a knife grovel of that magnitude would have been legendary. I think you darn near rendered Charlie speechless. Please pass the 'gator.

Well Done...:thumbup: :thumbup:

Yes, that's an intersting jig, and I like how it goes all the way to the bolsters.

When I got in line, Ken was only 6-7 knives backed up. That was about a month ago, and he said he would get to mine by about mid-June.

That jigging is very interesting, Rob. Does Ken do his own jigging? I've never seen the cuts so large (assuming it's an average sized knife, and not a miniature!). Case does all this weird jigging, that I dislike a fair amount- -almost hate, but this "big jig" is interesting!

Grovel extraordinare!!! I had to check and see if I still had my knife!!:D

I don't really know if he does the Big Jig:D himself. His website says, "I "handmake" knives meaning I do not use cnc machines and start from bar stock and raw material. I keep most of, if not all, of the knife making operations in house".

With apologies to all who need them, the jigging would REALLY look big on these little knives!

(note to moderators; this post has been cleared by a good friend of mine, who is NOT insulted!!);)

Well, I settled on something from a new batch at MOP Co. Very impressed with their service - got back to me right away, suggested alternatives, then sent photos, all in the space of a few days.

Somebody mentioned Ken Erickson the other day. I found this one on his new web site. I really, really like the jigging on this one. I'm just waiting for him to answer my email and if the stars line up just right, I hope get something similar, with a warncliff instead of the spey.

And that baby is mine, all mine!!! Mwahahahaha... :D :D :D
I got it a couple of months ago, and it has been my edc ever since.

Kens knives are superb, and the man himself is a true gentleman.
