Question on knife I just picked up

Some of this is copied from a post I made on the general forum. The knife is going to be a birthday present for my 10 year old son. He has shown responsibility in using a small folder and I wanted to get him a knife he would use and keep forever.

Someone listed what appears to be a RAT Rowen made RC3 in new condition for $60 including shipping on ebay. It was listed as an Ontario Rat 3, but the picture shows Rowen on the blade. Doesn't that make it a RAT/ESEE? I realize it could be a scam, but his feedback selling other knives is good and I will fight through paypal if there is a problem. This was exactly the type knife I wanted to get, I just did not want to spend the money I thought I would have to to get a RC3. Anyway, wish me luck that there aren't any hidden problems. the picture may be inaccurate. if it was listed as an ontario it is not an ESEE. upon receiving the knife, if it says ROWEN it is indeed an ESEE.

also the listing has been taken down.

edit: 60 seems really REALLY low for an ESEE3, even the ontario version. that coupled with an incorrect picture, and that the listing has been removed it could be a fake. i guess the only way to tell for sure is when you get it.
 
Oh and also, if it had been a Rowen, someone here would have bought it from under you in less than the time it took for me to post this. :D
 
I can still see the posting. Someone do me a favor and search on ebay for item # 260645377400 . I just pulled it up again. I knew it would not last long at that buy it now price. I bought it last night within a couple of minutes of it being posted. I will be frustrated if it turns out to be a scam, but I will be ok through paypal (past experience) if it is a complete scam. If it turns out to be an Ontario, I will be disappointed, but it is still not a terrible deal. Anyway, someone let me know if it still isn't showing up under that transaction #. Thanks
 
you could always start him with the izula and be under $60 or add the scales with it and be right about $60
 
The knife pictured is indeed a Rowen made knife. Rowen made knives some with the plastic bag, plastic survival card, etc. This one also has a MOLLE back. Ontario RAT-3s never had a MOLLE back. The listing says Ontario RAT-3 which is totally wrong. Whoever's selling it don't know what they're doing.
 
It does say in the listing that it's a "BladeTek" molded sheath, which I would assume he meant Blade Tech but it seems they don't make knife sheaths.
 
Nice score man. Just at first glance the blade looked RC/Rowen. Congrats on getting your kiddo a knife that is worth something that he can use for a long time to come!

ohh, they have made some sheaths. i just don't know if they've ever made them for the Rats.

but i have one for my CS SRK.

Thanks R.A.T.! Nothing better than hearing that from the man himself. I am really excited to give him such a great knife. It will be a great opportunity to model character for him by not keeping it for myself and giving him my old USAF survival knife.:D. Just kidding, I wouldn't do that he is an awesome kid and he is getting an awesome knife.
 
Either he doesn't know what he's doing or he knows EXACTLY what he's doing.

Picturing a ESEE product "accidentally" when your really selling Ontario products would be a good way to boost sales.

I thought this was so but I wanted to verify. Let us know when the deal is complete. Everyone here knows you got a deal! The Ontario is a really good price but I just got my RC-5 so no can do. Glad you got the deal! :thumbup:
