Question on leather sheath

This Attleboro knife came with a kydex sheath. I ordered this leather one from them. The sheath is very well constructed, has a good design and the knife fits perfectly. But the leather is so very hard and won't hardly flex at all, which may be a good thing. I noticed these little cracks around the holes. Is that because the leather is so dried out? I put some neutral Kiwi creme polish on it to maybe soften it a little. So what's going on View attachment 1941596you leather experts.View attachment 1941575View attachment 1941576View attachment 1941577

My guess would be a dull punch when they punched the holes. Also looks like there was a worn out support behind while punching. Once leather has cracked its cracked not much a guy can do bout it. My opinion, a sheath should be firm feeling. Making it softer with oils, creams conditioners etc won't fix the cracks and likely lessen it's useful lifespan.

Thanks for that Horsewright. If I put anything else on it, it will just be black shoe wax.

Unless it gets wet a lot bout once a year with Skidmore's would be even better. Lot of folks feel that shoe wax has a tendency to dry leather out.
