Question on liners

In looking through the pictures thread I noticed many of the knives have liners. I am wondering if this serves a functional purpose or is merely cosmetic. They sure look good!
Also, if anyone has a JK with olivewood handles I would love to see a picture.
Thanks

Only cosmetic. I`ve only done one knife in olivewood, an Improved Bowie for jds1, but can`t find the picture.

Red liners look great with olivewood scales. I'll post up a photo in the near future.

Liners are very practical, they put hair on your chest and make you tougher...proven fact

Yup,Peter nailed it on the head.:D ;)

Keep in mind that the liners KYenglish showed are not the standard liners. Those are .125 thick, standard liners are .030 thick.

All I know is that red liners and ebony are a fantastic combination.

Good stuff KYenglish. So do the thicker liners make you tougher than the thinner ones? :)
protourist that look like a great combo, I was thinking of the opposite, Bloodwood with black liners...

Sounds like a winning combo.

The thicker liners make you feel tougher. Thin liners are for those of us that don't need to feel tough.:D

Man, its getting deep in here - glad I'm wearing boots! :D

I love burl handles, and I think white liners really make the veins in the wood "pop." I can't think of a structural benefit to having them, but in my opinion they just give a more finished look.

This isn't the best pic, as I am in the process of finishing the handle on my Anniversary EDC HD, but should give you another color combo to consider. I am down to 500 grit, going to 1200, followed by steel wools. Initially stabilized with Danish Oil, but will get 3 - 5 poly coats after to get a deep water look to show off that awesome figure! John does great work, with or without liners - I'm sure you will be pleased either way.

Good looking knives KYEnglish and Protourist!

What is the story on the RN-9? I really like the design.

The Rule #9 was a design Mack (protourist) entered in my 3 year anniversary contest, which won. I added it to my line at that time.

Not to hijack the thread but, I am rather proud of this design. It really is a cutting machine. Thanks John. As usual, you took a very simple drawing and knocked it out of the park.
