I was looking through the thread on Makers Mark and decided that since I have started making some sheaths I probaly should get me a stamp for them. Any advice on where to get a stamp made and what all should be on it? Thanks in advance for any help and guidance.

Check out Tandy leather, they have a wide variety of leather tools and stamps.

I was not talking about tooling stamps, I meant makers stamps. I meant the ones with peoples names and their personal marks. Where do you get those made and what all do people like to see on the stamps. Sorry should have been clearer.

Maker stamps for stamping steel. Try the Evers stamp company. I ordered my stamps from them and have been using them for over 20 years. I don't know if they are still in business, its worth a google.

That Grey Ghost does not look to bad. An 1 inch stamp would only be about 60 dollars. Thanks for the guidance.

I considered Grey Ghost but thought his communication was rather poor. Here are a few links:

I ended up buying one from the guy below. Nice guy and did the artwork for what I wanted from a rough drawing and then made the stamp out of black delrin all for about $65! Emailed a photo of the actual stamping on leather for my approval too! Stamp is still like new after a year of use. I use his stamp as my avatar as a matter of fact.

Hint: if you press a stamp rather than hitting it with a hammer you get much better and more consistent results. I use an inexpensive 1 ton arbor press for mine but be careful not to overdo it. ;)

Most makers seem to use their name or company name and location or website address along with "Maker" or "Saddlery" or something like that but you can put whatever you want on it as long as it fits IMO.

Thanks Richard. While looking at his site I did notice that he has your stamp listed first. :) Looks good.
