Question on Mooremaker/Queen City

I have been admiring all the Mooremaker pics lately and have got to thinking about getting one.

I have a trapper and canoe with the 1095 blades put out by Queen with the Queen City stamp. I like them both. I have always thought it'd be nice if they did a stockman with the 1095 blades and whatever handles they could come up with. Nothing yet that I know of.

Do you think a Mooremaker stockman would satisfy that craving? Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. They have thin, 1095 blades, various handles... Instead of having a Queen City stamp, it'd have a Mooremaker.

thanks, Matt

Matt,
I have queen, and moore maker knives currently, and I have owned schatt & morgan, and other knives which queen has made for other companies. I like the moore makers that I have , because I like the steel, the patterns they offer. They are essentially a nice queen knife with 1095 blades. I have a couple of moore maker stockmans that I have been pleased with. I would recommend it, it would satisfy that craving I think nicely.

Whenever I have seen pics of the mooremaker stockman I always felt that's how a queen city one would look. Those nice thin blades with a california clip just like the one on the QC mini trapper.

Matt..

Like Durbin, owning knives from the manufactures that he's mention plus Queen City I'm sure you would like the Moore Maker Stockman too...it would satisfy your urge...though I do find that the Moore Maker back springs are the tightest to open. Another thought have you looked at Great Eastern Cutlery's Northfield or Tidioute Brands..more handle choices, less money and back springs similar to Moore Maker.

henckel stockman? 4 blade stockman. it has a california clip. i looked at one the other day. i was impressed. the fit and finish was great. the blades all had the same opening tention. i feel it was better than G.E.C. they are not talked about. i wonder why? can anyone give me information on them. are they under rated? you hardley hear about them. i sure would like some feed back. made in germany. J.A. Henckels. thanks.

Thanks for the info thus far.

Capt. Carl--Thats what got me thinking along these lines. The one picture I saw made me wonder if they did a stockman in 1095, would it look like the mooremaker with how thin the blades are? I thought so too.

Matt

Sorry I can't help Jack Walker--I have no experience with the Henckels knives.

Matt,
I too am a fan of the Moore Maker knives. I have three Queen stockmans, a 5301 from 2003, and the 6302 from 2000, and a 5302 (cant remember the date). Both knives have what Capt. Carl referred to as the California clip blade. This blade style is also know as a Turkish Clip blade. What I particulary like about the 5301, as well as the others for that matter is the outstanding blade steel, and the way the Turkish clip is deeply seated into the knife when closed.

Here is a couple of pics, as well as an older Schrade Walden serpintine jack with a similar turkish clip blade (see Levines Guide 4th ed. 1997).

Wow Beaver, the scales on the larger Moore Maker just raised my pulse a couple clicks. Absolutely beautiful knife!

Teaser pics.....

This has been my favorite as of late.Notice how all the nail nicks are so you use the same hand opening. Not all stockmans are like that. The shields on the Mooremakers are cool, I think. if you get a serialized one they have a shield in the pile side for engraving. Earlier shields are pinned too.

Are the shields on Moore Maker knives made by Queen not pinned any more?

I think most of the Schatt's are pinned, but Queen's are not pinned. Larry

Those are the pictures I am talking about (Beaver and Navihawk). They tempt me more and more.

My 2007 5300 was pinned, my 2008 isn't. It has the hole where the pin goes but no pin

Queen City canoe in 1095 tight as a drum, and a big Queen trapper in cocobola and D2. D2 must have a high nickel content because it resists rust better than CV or 1095 imo.
