I just got a new stainless Springfield Armory XD .45 with a 4" barrel, great feel, gorgeous gun, and 14 rounds of .45 in a mid size package is amazing! I shot 14 rounds today and I had a failure to feed arround round 8 or 9, i dont know if its a break in issue or what, the spent round ejected fine but the slide locked back and didnt strip off the next round. I released the slide and fired the remainder just fine.

Anyone else have any xd issues like this?

I know 14 rounds isnt a good benchmark i definately have to get in some more range time.

First thing to consider is whether you accidentally hit the slide lock with your right thumb, depending on your grip. Probably need to collect more data, however. Which is sorta fun anyway. The follower is what pushes up on the slide lock when the magazine is empty and locks the slide, and since yours wasn't empty when the slide locked back, that wasn't what caused it (unless I'm missing something, which is quite possible).

Powernoodle probably has it right.

Another, lesser possibility is the ammo profile is such that it engaged it from inside the magwell. That's easy to check. Load the mag, take off slide, insert slide and see if the bullet profile touches the inside part of the slide stop. Strip one round and check again.

But it's probably YOU engaging it inadvertantly.

if its a brand new pistol they require a a few rounds to break in, 100 or 200, during the break in malfunctions are not uncommon, so if its new and no break in i would imagine thats the deal.

It is tough to evaluate from just 14 rounds, I would have to say fire a few hundred through it and see if the problem repeats. As stated make sure your grip isn't the fault, just keep your thumb tucked while testing the gun. If it does repeat the malfunction first try a different magazine. It is possible the recoil is bouncing the slide stop if the spring is weak or broken.

I am in agreement with those above. I'd run a couple of boxes of WWB FMJ (Winchester White Box, Full Metal Jacket) rounds through her. That's a sweet pistol you have, go out and shoot the daylights out of it.:)

I agree with Absintheur. I read on the CCW forum that some others have had the same issue, and after 3 or 4 boxes, the problem went away.

Break it in with the FMJ as fivefold suggested. Then switch to your carry round.

Shooting bud picked one up several weeks ago and we shot the piss out of it last Saturday. Not one hiccup in 400 rounds. Springfield Armory makes one of the best 45s around (IMO). Prior to running lead down range with one. . . .I wouldn't have purchased one. Now. . . .I'm very impressed with the XD !

As others have mentioned. . . .always run the best ammo the first 150+ rounds. . . . .then report back.

And if you want that trigger cleaned up I can recommend Ray Saltzman at Saltzman Gun Works 765-675-2040. He does wonders with triggers on these.

i've gone through about 800 rounds with mine without any issues. you might try different brand ammo and see if that makes any difference.

Check the feed ramp for disruptions and if she don't shoot good quality FMJ's you may have a warranty problem.

Put a few hundred rounds through it and watch you grip. The XD is a great pistol but if you use crap ammo it will let you know. I have a V-10 4in. in .357sig that has 15,000+ rounds through it, Besides the parts the eventually wear out it has performed flawlessly.

Havnt got a chance to shoot it again yet, 4" snow so far and crappy weather has kinda prevented me from our only range that happens to be fully outside
