Question on offers

if I make an offer on a knife and it's unanswered for a week, can I take the offer away or is that looked at as a bad move? If I take an offer back, do I delete the post or just say offer rescinded? Thanks

I wouldn't even wait a week, honestly...I generally give it 24-48 hrs, unless I know that the person has not visited the site. (Occasionally, I will withdraw sooner, if I know that I won't be available to respond with payment in a timely manner; but it is rare...and, if I REALLY want the knife, I might give it extra time; but that is even more rare.) Also, I only make offers via PM or email; so it is between me and the seller. If you posted in the thread; I would edit the post to state that the offer is withdrawn.

That's a good point about making offers by PM or email and not in the sale thread. The seller may have been offended by your publicly view-able offer and may have chosen to ignore it.

But yes, either edit your post or post a new reply stating your decision.

I agree that 2 or 3 days is plenty long enough, though there is always the chance that real life kicked in and the seller is simply unavoidably unavailable. I would send a PM and express ongoing interest if still available and, of course, if I were still interested - and edit the post by removing any $$s or knife trade info, along with the withdrawal.

To add to the hhmoore's comment - I think it is bad form to make an offer in a thread - unless there is absolutely no way to contact the seller otherwise (does happen). I hate offers be made in my sales threads as it sets a bar that does not give me much wiggle room. Maybe I would sell that low or trade for that knife - just not to you o_O :). In general I think that an out loud offer in the thread closes some maneuver room and the potential of other offers. PM or email are the way to make offers to my way of thinking. My 2¢ anyway...

correct. Send the offer discreetly, via email or PM. Nothing pisses off a seller than someone lowballing them in public. It's poor form all around.
