Question on old Western Bowie

Just picked up a Western Bowie, equivalent to the current Model 49. From my quick research, I now know that they were acquired by Camillus, and that the current model has rosewood grips.

The one I acquired is stamped on the brass handguard:

Stainless Steel
S649

and

Western
Boulder Colo USA

Sheath is unmarked leather with D-ring connection to belt loop and is intact with some creasing at tip and cracking of retention strap.

Knife is in excellent shape with on some tiny longitudinal scratches on blade (from inserting into and withdrawing from sheath?).

The grips appear to be either bone or a very good composite imitation.

Paid $20 at a pawn shop; knife had obvious quality.

Question: Can somebody enlighten me as to the grip material and any other info.

Most of my knife collection is Case or Schrade, and Western is a new maker for me.

Thanks.
