Anyone know the RC of the PCKS BG-42?
I have a PCKS 110 with BG-42 ans was wondering what the are HT'd to. Was wondering because mine is micro chipping in a few spots and has a medium chip on the tip. Im not complaining its stayed razor sharp for a year, just wondering if the chipping was normal.

Depends on what you've been doing with it...

For example, I use my BK&T Combat/Utility 7 out in the garden often. Sometimes during the process of hacking out ivy and other unpleasant weeds my edge will slip and hit against a rock or something, this causes some chipping to be sure, but nothing my Spydie 204 can't handle when the deed is done.

If you use your knife against hard materials (such as steel) or if you do alot of stabbing stuff (I know some guys just can't resist running their knives consistently into wood blocks) you are inviting chipping to happen. If on the other hand you're only opening mail with the thing, you may have a problem.

If you describe to us some of the things that 110 has gone through we can probably help you to better understand your chipping and whether or not it's of particular concern.

usual tasks would be cutting wood, chopping wood, and cutting plants. As far as i can remember i havent hit a rock with it. Have stabbed it pretty deep into a few trees though.

Knives with thin edges get chips. That's just life. You hit a staple when cutting a cardboard box, you get a chip. I hit a knot in a piece of hard wood, you get a chip. I’m convinced that there is no magic blade, no matter who makes it.

That upside is that thin bladed knives cut a whole lot better than thick chunks of steel. I get chips all the time, and grind them out when I have to. My BG-42 Bucks happen to be some of the best cutters in my collection. They outperform about 95% of my other knives on general utility chores. I’m happy to live with a few chips if it gets me that level of cutting efficiency.

I would be happy as well, but instead of repeating myself look
Here Needless to say its going back now. And if any of you have a PCKS 110 you might want to take a close look at the lock.

Rifter,

What's this about the PCKS lock? I've never heard anything being wrong with the lock, but I don't own one yet. What's your experience?

Failed light spine wack test, my CRKT M16 will still hold up to the test while using 3 times the force. I have a feeling it might have something to do with the chipping blade, might also be chipping where the locking bar is and causing it to fail. Read the link in my post above yours for full story.

Buck heats the BG42 to 60-61 FWIW Their system was designed and is in consultation with Paul Bos.:)
