I have a question on peaning pins,I am praticing on some stock metal
before I try it on my first knife.I am useing nickle bolsters with nickle pines.after I am done peaning them i make a pass or two over with a belt sander to make them blend in and then I am hand rubbing to a 800 grit then buffing with white compound, they are so bright you can see your teeth in them.My question is when I move the blade in under the lights I can see a faint circle were I put them in and worked them
done,is this common or is there something I could do like counter sinking the holes or somthing else so they can not be seen. I would like to hear some input on this.
Thanks a bunch

Here is the way that I do it.
First I made a tool to cut a taper hole
in the bolsters after you drill your holes
On straight knives I cut the bolsters so that
they are about 1/4in long on each side.
I then put the pins in & pean the pin over
with a small ballpean hammer.
Then with a bigger hammer I Hammer the Pi$$
out of it. With the same hammer I pean the
edges of the bolster that will make good tight
seam between bolsters & blade.
The last thing I do is take a 3# hammer &
smack the pi$$ out of it.
If it done right you`ll have a good tight
fit.
I hope it all makes since

One thing to keep in mind is to ensure your pins are clean before you put them in. No matter how good your fit, if the pins have any oil or dust on them the ring will show.

Now come to think of it I drilled the bolsters and put some cool tool on them well drilling ,I may have had some on my fingers when putting them in the holes they could have pick some then
Thanks for the input I will give it anothor try and I will clean them this time.
Thanks a bunch:D
