Question on purchasing woods

I'm still new at this so please bear with me. I am buying some wood for handle material on the net and I have a question about dimensions.

What is a minimum acceptable size for a block of wood for a hidden tang knife. I'm at work and I don't have a ruler!

Anyway I'm putting these on some blades that are no bigger than 4 inches long and 1.25 inches wide. And a couple of small tacticals (Like in junes Blade issue [with Blade II on the cover])

is 5.5" x 1.5" x 1.25 inches ok for this application?

Thanks

Scott,

You bet, that size is great. it will give you enough material to grind different handle shapes. I like my hidden tang material to be at least 1"x1.5"x5", I have used a lot of smaller pieces but then you have to be real careful not to over grind and your limited to what all you can do.

Good luck

I'm with Bill, that's an ideal size. After you've made your purchases would you share your vendor? I'm always looking for new wood too.

First one on Mikes msg. I talked with them yesterday and signed up for their list. They have some really nice stuff and the prices seem very reasonable. So far they are very nice to communicate with. I'll let everyone know what I think about their cust service after I get my stuff.
