I just found an old Schrade fixed blade hunting knife I bought in 1982.It had those awful looking fake stag handles and I had taken them off and had cut 2 slabs of walnut to the shape of the handle of the knife. My question is what type of rivets and epoxy should I use to attach these slabs to the handle. The knife is a full tang and I plan on sand blasting the tang to have a good surface to glue to,and then use files and sandpaper to shape the walnut slabs.Any advice would be appreciated.Thanks.

I'd use the Devcon, as for pins, that depends on what holes you have in the tange. Or you can use a carbide bit to enlarge them.

On a full tange for maximum strength I like Loveless bolts, If that's not practicle, I'd use brass or nicle silver pins to match the gaurd. After the handles are glued on and shaped, counter sink the pin holes slightly and pien the pin heads for a secure bond. Also doesnt' hurt to put a little epoxy on the pins befor install and while piening. Make sure pins are roughed up and clean, about an 1/8" sticking out of the hole and the end of the pin is crowned. Makes piening a lot eaiser. After the pins are piened just sand flush and finishthe handle.

Good luck.

Will52100,what are Loveless bolts? The holes in the tang are 3/16's in dia.The guard is gone I damaged it when I beat the ugly staglon scales off with a hammer(remember this was 20 years ago and I was a pup). The walnut slabs are long enough to cover the area formerly occupied by it.Drilling out the holes in the tang is no problem if they are too small.Thanks.
