Question On Selling Prices

What is the rule here regarding the selling price once an item has been sold?

I have ran into some problems on other forums for removing the the selling price after an item was sold.

I did this thinking I was protecting the privacy of the Buyer. I feel that nobody really needs to know what a member paid for an item in the B/S/T forums.

Clarification please?

Thanks, PkdMslf

Not the right place for this question. it should have its own thread in Service & Support, where others can access the information.

It has come up before, though, so ...

We have no rule on leaving the price or deleting it. This is solely the prerogative of the original poster (the seller) generally by understanding with the buyer.

Many of us would like to see the price as a reference or guide to approximate current values. Some buyers and sellers like to keep their agreed price private, and delete the asking price to buffer that. But it is up to you.

Diggin this one back up for reconsideration...

I was, in fact, thinking about this. I am just learning about some of these knives and it would be very helpful to be able to browse back and see what various knives sold for and what historical value they had.

However I don't like rules either. I was hoping sellers and buyers would think twice before removing these as they are very useful.

If it were up to me, prices would remain, solely for the historic value.

However, as was stated, there is no rule for this.

Personally I like to keep the price up for anything I sell simply as a reference for others who may be selling the same thing later on down the road. They can check to see what the buying market is paying and can set their price accordingly if they so wish.

Past prices are not an indicator of present value. It's up to the seller and no one else.

Though the buyer does have the option to quote the OP in their I'll take it post.

The point is that we let the seller decide.

Sellers support this site and help keep it open by defraying some (not all) of the cost.
Although I like having the prices kept unedited personally and understand the value of having them there, we are not about to start dictating things like that to the folks who think enough about the community here to support it.

I agree... no new rules is a good thing. Too much enforcement would then ensue if you did have one and sometimes people just don't want anyone to know which should be their right.

My hope, by bringing this thread back up, was that I thought that some that are just doing it out of habit and might read this and reconsider. Or perhaps it never crossed their minds that it was important information that might be interesting to someone? And perhaps a few might see it and consider leaving them up.

Good idea though theonew.

I leave them up on mine. I appreciate those that leave the price visible.
