Just bought a Nomad and as far as i'm concerned it a custom quality knife once you start noticing the little things......now i'm looking at the Sere 2000....is it a pretty good knife.....thx in adv/paul

I don't own one, but it is widely regarded as one of teh top tactical folders out there. Probably the top liner lock.

I can't ever remember hearing anything bad about it, other than the fact that it is a liner lock, which IMO is not in and of itself a drawback, but opinions vary.

I have a SERE 2000 and it is one of my best folders, a very good knife for working with wood and other Survival related field stuff!

It's the smoothest knife I own. The fit and finish are great and it has the best liner lock I've ever seen. You can't go wrong with it.

I used to have one which I traded away (bad decision). It was as close to perfect as I have seen. The only drawback is it's a fairly heavy knife but it's solid and well made, no doubt about it. Cliff Stamp made one fail, but he can make anything fail.

It's an excellent, well-regarded folder. Yes--any liner lock can fail if subjected to unusual, lateral forces, but in normal use it is as fail-proof as any out there.

It feels great in the hand and is constructed like a tank. I would not hesitate to recommend it.

I bought a SERE 2K in early December. I agree with the rest - this is one well made folder:D If there was a drawback, I also would agree that it would be the weight - it is a tad on the heavy side. For me, it's a bit big to clip in my regular pants pocket, but seems OK if I clip it to the back side of my cargo pants pocket. Otherwise, it rides in my winter jacket pocket. Very smooth, I think my Paramilitary is about the only that one was as close NIB. I think mine is one of the new ones - it's VG-10 but from Moki/Japan instead of Seki City. Mine also has the white washers (don't know the material) instead of the phosphor bronze, but that hasn't hindered it's use in the least. I've carried it pretty well every day since I bought it and the clip is showing finally showing a bit of wear, but it's sure lasting well compared to most others. I'm not a hard user, but have used it enough to have to touch up the edge a bit, but so far, so good:D

Think Nomad on steroids. It weighs in at 6.0 oz, and has a most solid feel to it.

edited to add; I just noticed that NGK has the mini SERE coming in in a week or so. A SERE 2000 scaled down to a 3" blade, 7" overall, and a 3.5oz weight.

yea mine says Moki on it too and has the white washers..says its 115 of 200..i'll have to check out that mini before i purchase...dont like too heavy a knife, my mini skirmish is about as heavy as I wanna go......p

Do a Google search. There was a review with some negatives.

I did a google search for "Al Mar SERE" and came backwith 1,590,000 hits. A review with some negatives.... Seems like the odds are good that it's a good knife.;)

BTW, I own one and have beenn far happier with it's quality than with any other folder I've ever owned, even my Strider SnG.

Great knife as stated. A classic. Feels like a fixed blade in hand. Arguably unbeatable for the price.

The SERE 2K is an extremly well made knife. I have the one with the black blade. It rides very low in the pocket so it is almost invisible to the sheeple.

ONE CAUTION!....Don't wear it in your back pocket because its a "tip up".
I have had an earlier SERE come open while getting in and out of the car and the simple movements of the butt cheeks can cause a "tip up" to come open in you pocket. I also had my Sebenza come open in my back pocket...once again a "tip up". I now have one pair of pants with a big slash in the pocket and a nice scare on my thumb from being cut while reaching back to remove the knive(don't remember if it was the SERE or the Sebenza).

Once again it's a great knife, just be careful!

Yes, there were only some negatives. Many positives.

I would expect positives regarding a knife made by one of the highest class companies in the business -- a company whose products I have enjoyed for many, many years -- including an original model SERE.

The vast majority of people who own the SERE 2000 like it just fine. Have you noticed that such is the case for the vast majority of people who own any knife from a reputable company? That's how they got "reputable." Al Mar is a class company that makes class knives -- that have limits like any other tool. Some might want to know one person's opinion on those limits and how arrived at -- or not.

The Sere 2k is a terrific knife. Mine is 91 of 200. I bought it about 3 years ago and it is fantastic. It rivals my Sebbie, Military, and Police models for cutting power. It is in a class that is head and shoulders above the rest in terms of fit and finish. Yes, it rivals the Sebbie in that area!

The SERE 2000 is a great knife. Mine is clipped to my pocket as I speak.

Materials are excellent, ergos are superb and - this is difficult to express - it just looks purposeful.

Highly recommended.

+1. Outstanding folder, clean design, solid construction. Rotates in my EDC with MT Amphibian and the superlative Military, gives up nothing to either.

INSPECTO,
You know what the Brits. would say! "Thats a bit cheekey of you there old son"

Do the test....wear it in one of your back pockets for a month!
