Question on short Kabars?

since it's listed as a made in USA knife, I suspect it comes out of the Olean, NY factory.

Try before you buy, if you're just looking at 'em online. They are a LOT smaller than the normal versions.

Olean, New York, United States of America, Earth.

Solid, little knives. Good designs at 3/4 size.

Sorry for asking. Last time I looked at their site I didnt see the made in US section, now I do.

The only stupid question is the one not asked, remember that. Don't be sorry for asking a question in any situation.
I agree with hawaiianhawk, try them out. Compared to the full size ones they are tiny.

Yes, they are scaled down F/U's but they are also great camp/backpacking knives. I traded a friend a friend mine that had a black blade and leather handle years ago. He prefers 7" and bigger bowies and F/U's but won't trade it back to me. LOL!! I have Westerns version of the small F/U and will be adding a Shorty Kabar back to my collection when I have the money. They are durn good users!

I have both the kabar short and the kabar short tanto. I like both they are good quality knives that you wont mind actually using.

As mentioned the short Ka-bar is very small for average hands. I agree that it is a good knife for backpacking and that is the use to which I have put mine - actually I gave it to my wife for her kit. I also removed the top guard so that it can be more easily used for food prep and the like and re-profiled it to a nearly Scandinavian bevel. It's a pretty knife but not much good for my own purposes. That being said I really like the knife. Good steel, well balanced, handy.

I like Ka-bars, period. Part of that is the fact that I very much appreciate companies that have not moved every factory they operate to mainland china. No, china is not capitalized. It is not a proper noun so far as I am concerned.

Whatever. I now carry a Mark 1 into the boonies. Great, great knife, can't say enough good things about it so I won't as this thread is not about the Mark 1.

In my opinion the 3/4 F/U is a good knife and more folks should own them. If your hands are too big for it you can always put it in the display case, "KA-BAR Olean, N.Y." side up.

Hey, Benwaller, welcome to the Kabar forum and Bladeforums, glad you are with us.

I like to think of the 3/4 Kabars as Bird and Trout knives, as, I have found they work very well for this task. Plus, they are just neat. They seem to fit my hands fine (med/large gloves) but I think its each persons choice in what fits and what don't.

That said, loves my full size F/U knives. :D

Definitely look at these in hand...it's surprising how tiny they are...you might think that they just scaled down the blade, but the handle is also much smaller!

Try Plumbin' fixture O-rings in the handle groves of your Short KA-BAR...

Increases the diameter a little and adds a lot of non-slip grip.

O-Rings for KA-BARs
(Five groves from Guard to Pommel)

- Drag the grooves w/ a loop of string to clean/clear them.
- Work from Pommel to Guard.

Short Fighting/Utility Knife (1250) Leather Handle:

Guard
- #12
- #13
- #13
- #12
- #10
Pommel
