I just took the GRS out I received Friday from HI to clean it up, wipe off the shipping lubricants, and shine it up well with SimiChrome...

One of the 2 small blade that ride with the sheath has no edge at all - it's almost the same thickness as the spine, and was never gound...?

Is this supposed to be that way...???

thanks!

Yes it is used to burnish the edge of your blade. It is a sharpener of sorts, it will fix any edge roll over. also good for striking a fire steel.

I dunno if anyone has said this yet, but that dull one is called a chakma, and it's for repairing a damaged edge.

...sorry, couldn't help myslef:D

An interesting point (well, at least for H.I. beginners):

If you run the chakma lightly along the cutting edge of the kukri on one side only, the other side of the edge of the kuk will be slightly rough to the touch where the edge hasn't been hardened, but there is no such roughness on the sweet spot (where the hardness is probably around 58Rc depending on kuk). I guess this may be the fastest way to tell very roughly how far the sweet spot extends and hit with the right part given your target (hard steel is sharp but brittle, soft steel will roll the edge but won't chip).
