Okay, I know this has been asked before but here I go. I was wondreing about the strength/toughness of the mnandi. Before you bite my head off, yes I have used the search function. It just seems like all the answers are either yes or no. I am looking for more specifics. Can the mnandi be used to whittle wood, make tent spikes and fire curls in moderately tough wood, cut a tough steak or moderately thick cardboard; things like that. Or maybe the mnandi shouldn't be used for those thing since that is not its intended design. Possibly some comments on the wooden inlay durability. I guess the question is more geared towards the mnandi but would like someone to include the small seb.

Not that this is important, but I planning on buying a lg. reg. seb, and matching wood small seb and mnandi early next year. I am new to the forums and knives in general, but instantly fell in love with CRK. I cannot afford them right now because I just bought a bunch of other knives.

This next part is totally off topic, but i'm new and don't know any better.:) I would like everyone to post as many CRK pictures as possible in my thread. Show some love for the new guy. Come on don't be lazy. I know there are alot already on here, but that's too bad.;) There can never be enough sebenza pictures, right?:)

I hope you enjoy the fraternity* of CRK product owners!

I believe the mnandi is easily tough enough to do everything that you mention above. What I would say, however, is that I don't find the mnandi grip as conducive to such high force cuts as other knives. Chris designed the mnandi for a more refined look, more refined uses, and that's how I personally choose to use it. Having said that, if I was w/o another knife whose design was aimed at heavy use (like my large regular sebenza) and heavy work was called for, I would not hesitate to use the mnandi.

Here's my EDC:

Thanks for the replies. DaveH after rereading my post I realize I specifically asked for the pictures in my thread. I was not trying to "steal the show" from your thread, sorry. A few of the pictures in your thread and alot on this forum have expired or are the same pictures in posted in another thread. I was just trying to get some new pictures, not step on any toes. Beatuful knife Fooj thanks for the pic. That is why I asked about the mnandi. I don't want to get it if I can't use it for anything required by an EDC knife. I would rather buy another sebenza. I won't even be able to afford one for awhile with the other purchases but cannot stop thinking about it. I kinda feel like a retard thinking about these knifes like i'm a little kid. Okay no more looong posts, sorry.

Hi Woody,

No need to apoligize. DaveH has been here a long time and didn't mean anything behind posting the other link. He probably just wanted you to see what was already up and around. It's always great to start a new thread about anything CRK related, that's what we're here to do. ;)
All of the cutting tasks you mentioned for the Mnandi are do-able, less for one. I don't think heavy wood cutting is what you want the Mnandi for. Move up to the small Seb for that. The Mnandi is a true gentlemens knife. If this is going to be your first CRK folder purchase, I might recommend a large or small Seb. In a small you will really like the classic style with a bit longer blade then the regular small and a more ergonomic handle. The small classic will be useful for any chore you can give it, to include camping, hunting, and around the homestead.

Fooj, Great to see some of your collection here. I was overly impressed on the CRK DVD. I've wanted to see up close the last Seb you posted. Your "Music" Sebenza. Thanks. PS- If for some reason you ""NEED"" to let one of those bark ivory Mnandi's go, please email me... :)

The Mnandi IS a tough little knife!! I agree with what has been said about it. I think it will do all that you want it to do.

PS: I am a women in the CRK Fraternity, by the way. It is the best fraternity to be in!!

The Mnandi is a great cutter, and certainly could be used for the tasks you indicate. Personally, however, I'd prefer something a tad larger. Not because the Mnandi isn't "tough enough" (it is), but because it's a small knife, and there's not a lot of handle to hang onto. If I had my druthers, I'd use something that I could get a better grip on. If you're looking for a small package, the small Sebenza would be a good choice.

Nice. Blackend! I especially like the way that you've captured the damascus patterns. On the mountain scene -- Lisa's taken the art to a whole new level, hasn't she.

Unfortunately, I'm really intermittent on the forum. It is way fun to go back and browse the old threads. One bummer with that sort of surfing is that many of the images that are hosted externally go stale. Are there ways to get all of our images on Bladeforums so that they'll stick for good?

There's two ways I'm aware of.

Each person can upload images through their personal BF membership.

People can reference images but they have to be hosted "somewhere by someone".

I spoke to Anne about creating a "permanent body of work" on the web, but they were ( and I assume still are) really too busy to try and put something like that together.

I also mentioned starting a web site devoted to CRK knives, but they where concerned about using "sebenza" in the website url or title.

I'm just running through my experiences. Maybe other will have better or workable ideas.

OOOOOH, a website dedicate JUST to CRK knives!! OOOOH!! That would be most excellent!! Sign me up!
