Question on Spyderco Military

Having recently acquired a Military model, I have tried to remove the word 'military' from the blade's surface. What can I say, I like a blank blade..

After having tried the usual paint removing or thinning chemicals (which usually do the trick..) I've had no luck, and of course I am not inclined to use steelwool:D.

What on earth is used for this writing? And, more importantly (to me), does anyone have a clue as to how it can be removed without scratching the hell out of the blade?

Thanks, Christiaan.

It's laser engraved, not painted on. You could try to polish it OUT (not off) but you would likely have to polish the entire blade to make it look even.

Thanks for the quick response.

Wow, laser engraved, huh... Okay, that explains the lack of avail to my efforts... I suppose I'll have to get used to it then. Shouldn't be too hard, the knife itself kicks such a large quantity of ass it will more than compensate.

Thanks, Christiaan.

I don't think you would ever get it all polished off.I have a BRK Native that I mirror poloihed and you can still see the BRK on the blade.

Yeah, that laser engraving is surprisingly resilient. I removed the "Military" on my newer Military by refinishing the blade with sandpaper. It took approximately forever. An easier method would probably be to grind off the writing first, then start in with the sandpaper.

The diamond engraving on the old Military is totally cool: there's no way I'd want to refinish that blade. It's too bad more knives don't feature that kind of engraving. I guess it just wasn't cost effective or something.
