Question on take down handle construction

Hi all,

here's my question on a take down handle-when you disassimble a takedown, do you expect the guard to come off as well? The reason I ask is, I typically soldier my guards so they are waterproof; even if I forced a guard down hard, if it was removable it would let water in. Or, do you just expect a tight, secure, and firm fit, but not necessarily 100% waterproof?

Take downs are made to be serviced and/or restored if needed. Like a firearm they can be disassembled, cleaned and lubricated however like a gun water can get inside. Beeswax at all the joints will seal them.
