I 've got a question on the 551. How come you see some of them with the little hole in the lockbar up at the pivot end and some you don't?
Whats the purpose and why is it not on them all? Thanks

I would think that they would either all have the hole or not... The hole is just a through-hole for the detent ball. Makes it about a million times easier to replace it if you ever want/need to cause you can just tap it out by putting a small drill bit down through the hole...

Thanks, i've just noticed that some of them for sale that i've seen don't have the hole even though they are the same model. So its kind of confusing when i see the pics of them. I don't see them at all on the 550's though.

Ok heres a pic from up top i borrowed of a 551 notice the hole.

And heres a 550 without the detent hole. Why the difference?

The detent hole was from the earlier run 0551's. ZT later changed the design of the framelock side slightly, so when the second/ last run of 0551's were released they did not have the detent hole in the lockbar. This carried over to the 0550's, so No 0550 should have the detent hole.

Thomas or Jim please correct me if I'm wrong:)

Cool but i wonder why they did away with the detent hole at a later date. This 551 must be a later one because it does'nt have the detent hole. Thanks Guyon i borrowed your pic. Was it an upgrade did they not need it, i'm cofused.

Thanks guys for the imfo much appreciated.

I would imagine that there is a hole for the detent ball. It is just not drilled all the way through the lock bar. That would be my guess anyway.

We have made several changes to the lockbar cutout on the Zt 0551/0550. Most of it has to do with the path of the laser, and the way we machine the slot after the fact to clean it up. As for the hole, it is for the detent ball, and we decided that it would look cleaner if the hole was a blind hole, not a through hole.

These kind of minor changes occur fairly frequently as we continue to try and improve our designs and manufacturing processes. Generally they will not affect function, and there is no reason for alarm. :)
