Question on the D'Allara?

I did a short search and can't seem to find where anyone mentioned it, but is the handle on the D'Allara Drop Point totally FRN, or are there metal liners?

The D'Allara Rescue has steel liners. I assume the drop point has as well, but I haven't handled one.

The original D'Allara Rescue had full steel liners. Very hefty but durable.

The recent revision of the D'Allara (both Rescue and Drop Point) has full skeletonized steel liners which are a hair thinner to help shave off weight.

I've got both the original D'Allara Rescue and the recent Drop Point and they're excellent knives for the $$$. In fact they're better knives than alot of more expensive ones out there.

I just got in my D'Allara Drop Point, Combo Edge.
What a great knife it is. Perfect, thought somewhat large in some peoples eyes. Love the ball lock, verry clever design.

Here are pics to show you the things you wanted to know:

Buy it for shure, you won't regret it. Razor sharp, perfect fit and finish. Only negative is the finish of the thumbhole. Mine isn't finished nicely. iff they had put 1 file stroke in the thumbhole it would have been perfect.

Don't know iff other Spyderco users have the same ruff surface of the thumbhole?

But great knives those D'Allara's

Great pics (is that an m&m in the first one?), they make me want one even more. I'm real excited for the smaller one that Sal mentioned a while back.

Thanks Shaggy, I can see the liners in the photo!

I am getting more drawn to this one, I need a fairly tough folder for an Urban PSK, I originally planned on a Delica 4, but the more I look at the D'Allara, the more I lean towards it. I am really interested on the bearing lock.

The D'Allara DP has been my EDC for about 3 months now. The bearing lock works well. I found it a bit harder to work than an axis lock at first, but once you learn how to hold your thumb at just the right angle it's no problem. The D'Allara DP is quite wide when folded, not a problem for pocket carry, but finding a sheath to hold it will be a challenge. I have been happy with the performance of the VG-10 steel so far.

An amazing knife and an incredible deal....right now you think it's big, but, it's bigger than you think...you have to see it in person...it kind of defies its stated dimensions...and this knife is BUILT. It will not let you down.

Hold on, i'll post a small movie sample off the lock working asap. It's a realy clever design. Though the clossing indeed takes some getting used to. But it works like a charm, and is rock solid.

Yes, it is an M&M hehe. Had to make the knife tilt a little for the picture haha. Just love M&M's ")

Ok, here is the movie.

Spyderco D'Allara Drop Point Ball lock demo

I hope this is good enough to see how it all works.

I've converted the movie to Divx. So iff you don't have Divx click here Divx player for Windows to get it.

Have fun, hope you enjoy it, and again sorry for the bad English :o

P.s. tips are welcome for possible future filmed reviews. Also iff you want something speciall filmed on the D'Allara let me know.

Here is a pic wearing the knife. Even though its rather large, it is a verry slim knife to carry i think.

Shaggy8675, thanks for the movie, I am still on diap-up, so it took about an hour to download, but it was realy worth it!

Nice closeup of the bearing lock, it looks to me, that it's sorta like the BM Axis lock in that as the parts wear, the ball will still engage the same?

sorry for that hehe, i keep forgetting some people use dial up ;)

For the rest, yes i think you are right. I think that the ball won't wear because it can rotate freely in anny direction. Perhaps the metal of the nife would be the first to show wear, but for me that's to soon to answer. It looks like it's made to last a good time.

Thanks for the film Shaggy. Very nice job with it and informative. I think the D'Allara is going on my wish list.:D
