OK, I bought one, and I included a preference by number because everyone else did...

Why did people pick numbers (besides the #1 (pictured) and # 9 (Wood Handle)?

How did you pick which number you wanted?

I was flying blind myself (one reason was the scabbard looked wider so I thought maybe the blade might be and another because I liked the color of one of the tools)... Was there an actual reason for others or just 'lucky numbers'?

A good question.

If I had taken a shot at these I would've opted for #5 (khuk appears about an inch longer overall and 12" is too short for me) or #6 (handle appears a bit curved) but there's not much else that I can get from the photos.

Of course, with the feeding frenzies the way that they are, the number I normally pick is, "SAVE ONE FOR ME YANGDU, JUST SEND ME WHATEVER'S LEFT". Fortunately for all I'm easily pleased. :)

I almost got the #6 when Yangdu told me the #3 was already gone and asked me if I wanted the #6, but after I asked her about the size of the grip on the #6, and confirmed that is was VERY small, I had to pass....

Well, I like the antler handles, and I like them to be white and with not too much "marrow" showing. The first four looked to have a little more white than the others, so I quickly emailed for 1, 2, 3, or 4 and got #1.

Upon further inspection, I looked at the scabbard shapes and saw that some probably had curvier blades because they were wider. Others may have had slightly longer handles. Others had whiter tools and such.

I enlarged the photo and measured and it looks like #1 and #5 have the longest handles.

#1 #2 and #4 seem to have straighter blades

In the final analysis I may have liked #3 (curvier blade) or #5 (longer handle and curvier) better.

It is all spectulation, and my playing "I shoulda..." leads to madness, as I know from losing out on house that we really wanted recently.
