Question on the Wegner and Spyderco's ATS-34

I was wondering if the ATS-34 on this model is as prone to rust spotting/corrosion as the ATS-34 of some other makers? I haven't seen any posts about it, so I assume the Wegner's corrosion resistance is very good...(?)since it is used by people in all manner of hunting environment.

My Wegner was my EDC for quite some time. I nevr had any trouble with rust whatsoever.

The Wegner's blade is fairly well polished. I'm convinced that a shiny satin finish is much more corrosion resistant than the all-too-common bead blast. A lot of ATS-34 blades have the bead blast finish.

I used my Wegner Jr. as my only kitchen knife for a month while living in temporary quarters earlier this year (the kitchen knives they supplied couldn't through bread). Not a spot of rust on it.

That damn Shootist beats me to it every time, and again here I am agreeing with him. I have never had a rust spot on my Wegner, I highly suggest buying one.

Got one coming, Rattler. Glad to hear of the positive experience. I'm about to replace my trusty Endura; I looked briefly at a current CQC7-A, but after reading certain threads on the General Discussion forum, I think I'll pass (he said, throwing the grenade...)

It was interesting to read, in another thread here, about how some folks have had severe corrosion problems with ATS-55 and AUS-8A. I have a couple of Spydies with these steels, that are somewhat neglected, yet haven't shown the first trace of rust.

I DID have a BM CQC7 with a bead blasted ATS-34 blade that would rust in a heartbeat if not cared for. I think Bugs3x is right on the money; a polished finish can be better in this regard.

Or perhaps it is simply the alloy content of that particular batch of steel? I have seen some "stainless steel" S&W revolvers that would rust while you watched. But the two I own have been used hard, sometimes going a day or two without cleaning after being carried for an entire shift in the rain, and never have displayed the first hint of corrosion (except on the rear sight, which is regular steel). Go figure...

Was? Was??? You mean it has actually been displaced? This I have to hear. What took its place????

I agree.....I didn't catch the "was" part. What is your new EDC Shootist?
