I just purchased this RD-6 Bush series from a supplier that had it described as 5160 on their site. The trouble is I see on several other sites they describe it as 1095 and when i called Ontario they tell me it is 1095. The vendor says it should be 5160 and it is a misprint on the Ontario site.

I am happy with the knife as it came with a nice sharp edge, fast delivery and the vendor is very helpful and willing to return it if it does turn out to be 1095.

I am a bit new to fixed blade knives for outdoor use and wondering is it really worth it to upgrade to 5160 if it does turn out to be 1095?

^ agree with the above, 5160 is used for swords and machetes more often because of its abiltity to have a very high toughness when heat treated in the low to mid rc 50s. I prefer 1095 because its a great all arounder, and gets verry verry sharp very easily.

Seems I read somewhere that the Bush Series RD's did indeed have 1095 steel. They do have thinner blades than the standard RD series. The Bush Series have a 3/16" blade while the plain RD series have a 1/4" blade, if that makes any difference to you. The 1095 steel is a very good carbon steel for what this knife would be used for.
