i just got this Western combo set off ebay its the North American Hunting Club series unused like new in the box. My question is would it be smart to collect this knife or use it? It would make a great camping knife.
Any input would be great. Thanks

here is a quick link of what the combo looks like. http://www.knivesplus.com/WR-286-Western.HTML

Ivan, the knives are yours to do with what you will. I am a very strong proponent of personal property and your right to do what you want with it. Knives were designed first and foremost to be tools, and to be used.

But... if it were mine...I'd find a good user W-66 on eBay to do my woodsrunning with. They are fairly plentiful and relatively inexpensive right now. Given the current state of affairs with Camillus Western, these might become scarce and semi-valuable overnight, but again, your knives, your call. And congrats on a nice set purchase!

Thanks Codger64 i just think it would be a shame to wear the combo out if its a collector

I don't know that it is a collectable yet, but it is likely a future collectable, even if all of Camillus Western's problems get ironed out tomorrow and blue skies prevail. I'm not sure the NAHC connection adds any real value (it doesn't really seem to with the Schrade knives I watch), but the set is more likely to become a collector item in the future if it is kept in mint condition with the box, sheath, and papers. At any rate, it's value already exceeds the same knives in used condition. I occasionally buy a mint knife as an example of a pattern, then find myself wanting to try it out, so buy an excellent used example of the same knife.
