Those of you that have knives that have them, have you found they discolor easily from dirt, blood, sweat etc,.

In my experience it will darken with some age and wear. My 92 Eureka came with some pretty bright white scales when new but has a mellow yellowed hue to it. Like the mellowing of stag, I dig it.

My experience is that if they are handled often, the sweat/oil from your skin will start to gently yellow the bone, over the course of 3-5 years. It may be able to be coated with something to prevent that from happening if you wanted.

I have a giraffe bone knife that I stained with grime from my garage. I got some of it off with alcohol but it still has some streaks of black. So yes, it will stain!!

White bone can get stained due to oil and stone/steel dust around the pivot area. When you sharpen by hand with a stone and a lot of oil, the oil can carry the grit into the bone. It takes awhile but will discolor with time. If you have a carbon steel knife and use a lot of oil to keep the rust away, you can also get a little bit of staining from the oil at the spring pin. Some bone is stabilized with so maybe stabilized bone won't pick up color from oil.
