Hey guys,

I'm planning on building a jewelry box for my girlfriend for christmas. She likes more techy/gadgety things than the classic artsy type styles. I've found this company that makes really nice looking CF veneer that I plan on using for the panels. I'm debating on what wood to use for the frame. the veneered panels will all be 1/4 inch Baltic Baltic burch placed in frames. the top piece will have 3 divided panels with wood frames in the middle of the panels. there will be 2 doors and on the doors there will be 4 panels (think panes of glass) that will wrap 3 sides (Back side probably wont have CF veneer). For the Rails and Stiles on these panels, I'm debating on using some exotic hardwood. I have been woodworking for my whole life with my father in the shop and for the last 5-8 years been working almost completely on my own as I prefer small scale intricate works like boxes etc and he prefers furniture work, therefore, I understand the caveats associated with many exotics (both health concerns and machining concerns). What I'm looking for is advice on woods you guys like to see with CF. I prefer either the really light woods, or really dark woods. Mahogany and walnut do nothing for me with this combination. I'm debating between:

Ironwood(pricey, but for the small pieces necessary for the frame may be feasible)
Cocobolo (more prevalent but alot of variation in color and shade)
Cherry(little to no figure but when stained with the Georgian Cherry gel stain, it makes for beautiful coloring)
Lacewood(have some in the shop already but havent worked with it)
Holly(no figure, bright white, may be too contrasting)
Tiger Maple( figured, darker in shade than holly, more prevalent)
Olivewood(I think this would be my first choice if I knew somewhere that sold something besides turning stock)

Let me know whats you guys would prefer out of these, or offer suggestions. Olivewood sources too if you know them.

How about east Indian rosewood? If you can find a larger block you can find awesome figure throughout the piece. Not too expensive either.

looked into the rosedwood. Design has been finalized with wood selection taken place. CF veneer will be on the doors, they will be bent laminated plywood with the edges and inside painted black, unless I veneer the inside with a nice wood veneer then, they will be lacquered. The top and bottom will be Cherry with the General Finishes georgian cherry gel stain which gives it both amazing depth and a lustrous red color. the doors meet but do not cover the main carcass therefor the drawer fronts will be either birdseye maple, Thuya burl or, Desert Ironwood burl. This approach allows the CF to be very decorative, but subtle enough to draw your attention to the drawers which will utilize the fancy wood. Lets hope it works out. I'll update this as I progress if I have time.
