Question: Purple backspacer on BM 940... I hate it.

I have held off buying the 940 for ages because of the purple back spacer. I just hate it. Well I finally gave in and bought one because I love the blade shape and dig the green handles (getting sick of black and titanium).

So my question is.... Is there an easy and proven method for removing anodization, in this case from the back spacer? I know polishing would work but is there some kind of solution I can soak it in?

Thanks in advance.

Use Oxyclean laundry detergent. I have a BM Skirmish I bought used on here a long time ago. Guy didn't like all the funky anodized colors so soaked the Ti scales in Oxyclean and water and removed the anodizing and left a really nice grey. Do a search on here for "Oxyclean" and see what comes up.

I hate the backspacer, too. But I hate the green handles as well. That's the reason why I still have no 940 although it's one of my favourite knives.

Agreed; the green and purple don't do it for me either. I prefer the 943 with the black handle and blue spacer, much nicer looking knife.

There are some easy solutions. Disasemble the knife and
1) send the backspacer to Pete Gray of Gray Precision to get it anodized whatever color you want, or...
2) take some sandpaper to it and remove the anodized color.

While you're at it, you can send the scales to Mad Jac's Finish & Archery to get the scales re-ano'd to whatever color you want. If I ever get a 940, that is exactly what I will do to make my 940 different. Either a dark blue or a toxic green (instead of the standard green), or a blaze orange or a deep red...

I actually have the 943 as well, but really like the reverse tanto of the 940. (Wish they still made the 942) I imagine you can do a blade swap between the 940 and 943, has anyone done this?

Thanks for the heads up, I will check Mr. Gray out.

Never understood why they dicontinued the 942. The 940 is a popular knife. Are green handles with purple backspacer popular as well?

The 942 was my first BM, and I love it bc it's sentimental and the design is great.

The green 940 is popular among most, however, I also can't stand the purple.. I opted out and bought two 940-1101's and they are my main users for work.. (They have the silver Ti Backspacer, and black aluminum scales).

Regarding the 942 - I don't know why either, they probably narrowed the design down to one bc they are both super similar, I think the steels changed.. Dunno

You could always find a 940-1101 - Problem solved :)

I actually like the satin blade better, so if I could find a 942 it would be even better. I don't hate the green handles so I will probably just have the back spacer anodized a different color and live happily ever after. :)
