Question re: Mora 2000

So now that Ragnar has Mora 2000's back in stock, I've been thinking of picking one up as my first Mora. My only concern is that while the rest of the Mora's have a traditional scandi grind which I think I'll be able to manage maintaining, the Mora 2000 seems to have an unusual edge geometry near the tip of the blade. So for those of you familar with the Mora 2000, how does the change in edge geometry effect the ease of sharpening on this knife?

Also I'm guessing that since the knife is Stainless, it's going to be useless with a swedish firesteel, not that big a deal, but something to keep in mind I guess.

It seems odd that I sould find a knife so attractive and ugly at the same time. The knife reminds me of an armadillo, not really much to look at, but a tough no nonsense critter that can take it and dish it out (unless it's trying to take on a moving vechicle, anyone from the South will know what I'm talking about).

Looking for enlightenment...

Sean

The change in geometry does not affect the sharpening angle for me in the least bit. I use a mouse pad and sandpaper to convex a secondary edge bevel and it works great.

Also, the notion that a stainless knife will not work on a fore steel is not true. It will work just fine. My Fallkniven F1 is VG-10 and I could weld with the sparks that it throws.

It will not work with a flint however. Carbon steel is required to create sparks with a flint.

I agre 100% with tarmix. I do find a conventional scandi easier to sharpen due to the wider bevel but that is just me. The M2K is the knife that stays in the glove compartment of the truck as I have come to like the clipper blade shape better, but again that is personal preference-not performance.

I can attest to the fact that you can indeed use the Mora 2000 with a ferro rod. I did have to grind the spine to a good flat edge, though.

Exactly, the spine needs to be squared off to a sharp angle in order to use it with a firesteel. Not difficult to do and I would suggest a mill file instead of a grinder.

The M2k is my field knife of choice most of the time. I do like the Frost 760 with a firesteel though. They have roughed the spine so that it sparks the steel without problem.
