Question regarding my new sebenza

Hey guys,
My first sebenza arrived this week from BladeHQ. I purchased a large, plain left-handed 21 (birth card July this year). When I took it apart to melt some para chord into the lanyard pin I got two surprises. First the small washer on the lock bar side is totally different from anything I've seen in videos or pictures. It's hard to describe but it is a unique shape (not round with small holes in it). The overall surface area of the washer is much smaller. The second surprise I got was when I went to lube it with the included CRK grease, the grease was clear, not white.

Anybody with similar experience. I'd be interested to know anyone's experience with the new washer and grease.

I'm not a pro on sebenza washers, but the grease seems to sometimes separate a little bit and have an oil layer on the top. If you squish it around or just keep using it you'll get to the white grease, or at least I always have.

Massage the grease tube. As for the washer -- let's have a photo.

My first thought was someone modded the knife you got, then I remembered you got it from a legit dealer. Either CRK has changed things, or hopefully not but maybe someone bought the knife, changed the washer for some reason, then returned it?

Send an email to CRK. They will let you know Pronto on Monday.

EDIT: just noticed the pivot hole opening on the small different washer is much bigger than the other. I can't recall...is this how "typical" 21 washers are?

Evidently it's a new style of washer CRK is using. This is the second one I've seen with a washer like that. There is another pic posted here on the forum that has that same small washer.
CRK continues to make subtle changes to the sebenza's.

That's what I figured. I would assume that this design would reduce friction while increasing the size of the 'pockets' to trap the grease. I have nothing to compare it to but I would say it achieves this without introducing blade play.

Looks pretty slick. Must be an improvement over the old ones. I wonder if the other side of the pivot will receive a similar treatment one day.

That's the same washer my July 23, 2015 Large CF 21 has.
All good!
Looks freaky though doesn't it?

The same type of washer came on my newish Mnandi, and that sort of washer is similar to what they are putting in the Inkosi. Seems to be the new idea.

Yes the grease separates. It will have clear fluid unless you squeeze it back and forth inside the tube to mix it back up.

Those outside cuts on the washer looks like prone to collect some debris.

Its a new design so time will tell.

I prefer "old" washer style.

Everyone (almost) prefers the old anything CRK until they give the new one a try, whatever it is, then most people love it!

Good point. I can see how this washer could collect debris more easily than the previous generation. I'd be interested to hear some user reviews on this.

The small washer looks to be less exposed than the large - so less likely to collect debris on the internal slots (Looking at my Large Seb). I am not sure of the purpose of the external notches and it may be more prone to debris collection.

I think CRK makes these little changes to keep the Forum talking.:)
Lots of posts.
I've never noticed any difference from the old (no holes) washers to the ones with holes.
:D Got me talking.
.

Those notches on the outer edge are not going to stop me from buying a new CRK, that's for sure. It looks to me like they are going for maximum grease retention and smallest surface area possible.

I just checked and I have those washers in both of my Mnandis. Birthdays June 15 and October 14.
