Question Regarding Rawles Voyager.

I received my Rawles Voyager today.

It has a completely chisel-ground edge, including the front, plain-edge section that is usually a double bevel or V-grind.

Is this supposed to be this way or is it a defect?

As far as I know, the only Cold Steel knives with chisel grinds were the serrated versions.

It doesn't say anything about this in the catalog or website listing either.

I also recall at least two articles that appeared in the Special Projects catalog in the late 1990s that pointed out the disadvantages of chisel grind edges.

The half serrated cold steel tanto folders are chisel ground. I don't think you'll notice a difference in cutting performance. My recon 1 is the same and I like it, easy to sharpen and gets scary sharp.

I guess that this is how it is on the Voyagers then.

I have two of the 4-inch bladed Recon 1s that are part serrated too, but they are V-ground.

Not a defect. Skip to around 5:55:
