Question regarding the Wenger Standard Issue

Hi All,

I just purchased a Wenger SI and wanted to know if my new knife, which has the "06" engraved on the back, was indeed made in 2006. Reason being, the receipt I got from the store said Wenger Swiss Army 70 which from what I understand is what they use to refer to the post 2008 Standard Issues. Could this be a repaired model or the blade an overstock from 2006 that was used to assemble a post 2008 knife?

Was it represented as a new knife?

Post issue knives had no number so it's either (as you said) a post issue made with remaining overstock blades or the receipt is using the newer "catch all" term (Wenger Swiss Army 70) for that model of knife regardless of age. This might be the case if it's a NOS (new old stock) item. I doubt that was repaired, but if it was a warranty repair, I would expect it to be just like a new knife. No worries either way. Dated Wenger SI's are more desirable IMO.

It's really hard to tell exactly.

Thanks SAK Guy! Yes, it was represented as a new knife. I wanted to post some pictures but am not familiar with the URL use. I'm relatively new so I don't have the permission to post photos as of yet. I bought the knife from a personal gifts engraving store that carries a few Wenger models and it was the last one they had in that particular store. It didn't come with a box so I couldn't check via the serial number. I did however visit a kiosk in the same mall which I believe is an extension of that store but on the other end of the mall. They had a Wenger SI that had no Wenger stamp on the Tang of the blade (or date stamp). I read on SAKWIKI that these models do exist and were most likely oversights by Wenger. Would those be of any value?

You are welcome!

To ALOX collectors, any model variation is of interest.

Good to know :) I opted not to buy that one cause I was worried that the lack of tang stamp may lessen the value. I might have to rethink that idea and grab a 2nd SI :P Thanks again SAK Guy!

No problemo! Any Wenger SI (or Vic Soldier) will be a good investment IMO...I buy them (Pioneer/Soldier/Farmer) because it's one of the patterns I never want to be without....
