Question regarding vibration reduction while chopping/batoning

Just wondering if anyone has every tried placing some rubber between the scales and the blade in an effort to reduce vibration/shock when chopping or batoning. Just wondering as I noticed fehrman uses this on his blades and I am wondering if it is something I should look into for my bigger blades or if it is a waste of time.

Never tried it between the scales and the blade, I've used rubber tubing on the handles themselves or tennis racket wraps and it helps a lot to be honest.
Another thing is use gloves with leather finger/palm areas.

I've seen horse stall mat (dense rubber) as a handle material....almost bought some the other day but it was in a 4' x 8' sheet ;)....too big to get into my mini-van work truck. In all seriousness I've been considering something of this sort, like an EPDM or similar between scales and tang. Only thing is, I'd have to slim the handles down as I don't have really big hands (my Camillus 2 has too much handle girth to be comfortable).

I don’t think placing rubber between the scales and blade will be a improvement. It might reduce some shock initially but the nuts will loosen faster than you can screw them back on. There is also a risk of skin getting caught by the space that is created when sandwiching a softer material.

Wrapping the handle (rubber inner tube, tennis racket tape) works much better, or wear gloves. Maybe create your own scales from rubbery material….that might be interesting!

I know that the Ron Hood Buck knives do this exact thing! There is a red gasket material under the handle that they say reduces vibration! I personally think it would look awesome to have white or blue with the black grivory on the Beckers ! I am def going to try it out have been thinking about it for a while , I have a bk 2 , 7 and a 9 .

Let us know how it works Sharp!
It'd be an interesting finding for use.

Hidden tang would be a solution, but not for becker.

I would rather cover whole handle with rubber, than try with rubber under scales.

I had 2 Fehrman EJ, the gaskets makes NO difference! Chopping with them were extremely painful. I find the res-c handles on Scrapyard knives to be very comfy. Absorbs shock well!
