First I must apologize for no digital photo skills or there would most certainly be pictures.

I just traded for an excellent, appears 99%, Busse Basic 3 with excellent condition original box & paperwork.

It is an early configuration with smooth black powdercoat and asymetrical edge.

I have read that it is a modified INFI steel & was an economy model.

I'm interested to learn the approximate years of production & numbers produced and the selling price when produced.

Thanks for any info. Ruff Cobb

There's some older threads about M-INFI, the difference is not detectable by mere mortals.

Busse never releases production quantities on models.

From Bad Mojo:

"The Basic Line is made of Modified INFI (Mod-INFI) and has Respirene C Handles. The Combat line is made of INFI and has Canvas Micarta Handles. The Basic line has been retired in 2001."

B-3's are real handy, useful little knives.

especially on the Modified INFI, brings to mind speculation as to why this product line was discontinued. Ruff Cobb

That's just the way Busse does things. All models are discontinued quite quickly, sometimes to resurface in a modified guise, sometimes not.

Don't worry about the mod.infi - it's tougher than nails and you'll probably never know the difference between it and infi.

I would love one myself!

My theory  is that there wasn't enough difference between M-INFI and INFI to manage the 2 lines/steel.

The Basics line morphed into Swamp Rat (Jennifer Busse) using SR-101 and Respirene C handles, the new 'low end Busse'.

After Swamp Rat started into micarta handles, Scrapyard Knives (brother Dan) took up the Respirene C line using SR-77

Just my $0.02

Back when I first joined was just after the Basics were discontinued. The reason (iirc) was that MINFI was becoming just as expensive to produce as INFI thus cancelling out the ability to sell them at a lower cost.

I was reading the paperwork enclosed in the box of the Basic 3, it states, " over 80 hours of heat-treating and tempering" in reference to the blade.

The information also states that the MINFI is cryogenically treated. I can see that this is getting into standard INFI territory & would probably be costly.

Thanks everybody for the imput. Ruff Cobb

would love a busse basic,,, ;)

just can never catch one for sale,, :grumpy:

If I had more time right now I would find the articles for you, but the M-INFI has just as many tests and reviews as the INFI Battle Mistress did.

Search "Cliff Stamp" and "Mike Turber" here for starters. There are other places to look but I can't remember them right now.

Jerry has some of his own results floating around as well.

M-INFI is a beast!
