Question(s) regarding the AK Bowie

My apologies if this topic has been brought up before, but after having scoured the forum, I was unable to find my answer. The AK Bowie is on my to-purchase list, but I had a question or two regarding it. First, would this knife lend itself well to having a sharpened swedge? Or would that have too much of a negative impact on tip strength? Second, if having a sharpened swedge would not negatively impact this knife, would I be able to order the knife with one?
Thanks in advance.

It's really not designed to have a sharpened clip. I think I remember someone asking about this, but it's been YEARS ago. I am a huge fan of the AKB. IMHO, it's just too beefy and heavy to take material away from the tip and expect it to hold up. Actually, its such a heavy chopper that a sharpened clip wouldn't be very good for a back cut.

I would look to something like the excellently designed Cherokee Rose or even the Tirtha Bowie.

Like I said, I LOVE the AKB, but it's just not something I would remove any metal from the tip. It's a war axe of a knife.

Oh and welcome to the forum:)

I appreciate your sage advice and suggestions. I will be sure to check out those knives, as well. Thanks!

No problem, Jason:)

If there is anything you want to know about HI products, you've come to the right place:) Lots of helpful guys and gals here that have forgotten more about khuks than I could ever hope to know:)

I think you could sharpen the swedge, just not all the way to the tip,the penetration capabilities will remain almost the same, also i believe the bowie is differentially hardened so the tip is softer steel that will roll instead of breaking. In the end its up to you to try it,i dont have bowies of that caliber, but my kabars have sharpened swedges.

Thank you Ramil; I had not considered only partially sharpening the swedge in an effort to protect the tip - that is definitely an option for me to consider. Again, I appreciate the suggestions guys!
