Hi to all,

I have a Government with the box logo and EDM WA markings. It came with a leather sheath.
The question is what year do I have.

Cheers for the help

It's old, very old!! Mid 80's to early 90's is my guess. Hopefully someone that knows the SOG timeline better will be along to narrow it down. By the way, pics of the knife (both sides) and sheath would be helpfull.... If you can't post pics, email them to me and I'll upload them to my site and link from there. Email in Signature.

Thanks wildmanh for your reply.

I can not get a decent photo with my phone so will grab a camera from work tomorrow and try again.

Cheers

I would be interested to see, how well it withstands prying. The one I had didn't like that at all. And I don't mean prying like nuts. Just use an average force, like you would feel the avarage fixed could withstand. On my Recon goverment (SK5 instead of 440A), it didn't have any impact on the blade, but the handle bent most easily. I was actually able to bend it by 90 °, three or four times in both directions before the handle finally broke. And, as i said before, no excessive force was necessary. After that, I was concered about my SOG Bowie 2.0. However, even when prying more forcefully, no plastic deformation took place.

You got a nice vintage!! I would not try any PRYING.. THat would sell for 250$ on FEEBAY! -- If u decide to sell it please let me know!

THanks

@ Dax0007 Yep it's the oldest one I have (also Dessert Dagger Box logo kydex sheath and a Seal2k split bullet logo).
It's a safe queen so no prying. I have no intention of selling, but if I do I will let you know.
The plan is to own all the Seki fixed blades before I'm dead.
The problem is getting them in Australia.

@ ml100 might I suggest a screw driver.

Cheers

@shane: don't get me wrong, my point is not prying with a knife. However, i think it should be able to withstand some lateral forces. And with respect to that, that was the softest steel I ever encountered in a knife. This was far from abusing the knife. All my other fixed withstood more lateral forces than the Recon Government.

@ Carl,
Yep everybody needs a goal. The problem here (Aust) is the stupid bloody restrictions on ownership, double edged (Pentagon and mini) are either banned or restricted. I can get a permit but that is a load stuffing about. Those that have the older SOG knives don't tend to sell them. If anyone wants to part with any, please let me know.

Cheers

Shane,

I hear ya. I exist in California ... and it ain't so easy here at times.

keep searching for those early Seki's ..... and you might even be bidding against me !!

Cheers,

Carl

Carl,

(keep searching for those early Seki's ..... and you might even be bidding against me !!)

My son collects them as well, though we make a point of not bidding against each other.
Good luck with your search.

This has got way off topic, but that's cool.

As best I can tell, the Gov is a 1990/1991.
1st year of production was 1990 and the leather sheath was used for 2 years, or so I'm told.

Cheers
Shane
